DA HUI KIM: Hi, my name is Da Hui. I am currently a student in Seoul. I attend Hankuk University of Foreign Studies, and I major in international studies.

When was the first time you took the TOEIC tests?

(SPEECH)

I first took the TOEIC test when I was a freshman in high school when my teacher advised me and my friends to take the TOEIC test. We were a part of the TOEIC club, so taking the TOEIC test was our main objective. I took the test because I wanted to apply for a job. And more specifically, I wanted to apply for a job at a foreign company. So I had to study for the test, and I had to become more fluent in English.

Did the TOEIC tests assess the English communication skills needed for your job?

(SPEECH)

I think the test did assess the required skills needed. Before going to school, I used to work at a British insurance broker company. And, there, they required employees to write business emails and talk to business partners about accounts.

And, when you write emails, you don't want to write casually and don't want to talk to them casually. You want to be very formal, and you need to talk to them in the business context. So I think that the TOEIC test helped me with that.

Does having a good TOEIC test score provide more job opportunities?

(SPEECH)

So having a high TOEIC test score helps you get more job opportunities because a lot of companies in Korea require you to have that test. And I think that it offers a wider range because if you have a high score, you can also apply to foreign companies.

Does having good English communication skills help you in your current school program?

(SPEECH)

I'm starting school for the first time this spring, so I can't speak too soon. But English proficiency is a requirement for my course especially because most of my classes will be conducted in English. So I'd say that being fluent is a must.

(DESCRIPTION)

Would you recommend others to take the TOEIC tests?

(SPEECH)

I do recommend other people take the TOEIC test because not only is it a requirement in Korea, but I think that it also helps assess your English proficiency and also helps you become more fluent in English in terms of writing and speaking and reading.
